Blacksburg -- Cecil Lee Ray, 93, of 146 Cherokee Falls Road, passed away Tuesday, July 17th, 2018, at Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, NC.

Born in Columbia, SC, he was the husband of Virginia Bright Ray and the son of the late Herbert Ray and Eva Kiser Ray. Mr. Ray retired from the maintenance department at Cherokee County Memorial Hospital and previously worked at GE in Hendersonville for 11 years. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he is a former chairman of deacons, Sunday School teacher, and trustee. He loved cabinet making and gardening.

Mr. Ray is survived by his wife, Virginia Bright Ray; one son, David Lee Ray and wife, Kim, of Florida, New York; one daughter, Carol Ray Owenby and husband, Gary, of Zirconia, NC; one grandson, Shane Owenby and wife, Victoria, of Seattle, WA; two great-grandchildren, Kellar Owenby and Jessica Jade Owenby, both of Seattle, WA..

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Ray Hampton.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 21st, 2018, from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm at Gordon Mortuary, 400 West Cherokee Street, Blacksburg, South Carolina 29702. Funeral services will immediately follow in the chapel at 3:00 pm with Rev. Norman Philbeck and Arthur Hampton officiating. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery. Ralph Bright, Todd Hensley, Mike Borders, Charlie Varner, Lesley Bright, and Arthur Hampton will serve as pallbearers.
