Obituary for Charles James Reynolds Jr.

Blacksburg -- Rev. Charles James Reynolds, 74, of 607 S Rutherford St, passed away Thursday, February 6th, 2020, at his home.

Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Shirley McDaniel Reynolds and the son of the late Charles Reynolds Sr. and Modenia Moss Reynolds. Charles spent his life serving others. He served in the United States Navy, he served as a pastor for several years, and did some work as a substitute teacher and school resource officer. In addition to that, he worked with the Cherokee County Commission on Drug and Alcohol Abuse, he was an officer for the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department and retired as a Captain with the Blacksburg Police Department.

In addition to his wife, Rev. Reynolds is survived by a daughter, Katherine Reynolds, of Blacksburg; a son, Charles Reynolds III, of Blacksburg; five grandchildren, Katie Chapman and husband, Russell, Joseph Stanford, Heaven Reynolds, Macee Reynolds, and Elizabeth Hardin; four great-grandchildren, Kylie, Luke, Jake, and Aubrie Chapman; and a sister, Sandra McDaniel and husband, Mark, of Blacksburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Mike Reynolds, and a sister, Brenda Fowler Stewart.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 8th, 2020, from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm at Gordon Mortuary. A graveside service with police honors will follow at 12:30 pm in Mountain View Cemetery with Rev. Quitman Hand officiating. Joseph Stanford, Joe Stanford, Traye Maynor, Jason Rumfelt, Cole Rumfelt, and Andy Hughey will serve as pallbearers.
