Obituary for Joseph Michael Hill Sr.

Blacksburg -- Joseph Michael Hill Sr., 40, of 177 Wilderness Trail, passed away December 28th, 2013 at Novant Health Gaffney Medical Center.

Born in Smithfield, he was married to Amy Ann Wright Hill of the home and the son of Joseph Carrington Hill of Conway, SC and Linda Lou McLamb Hayes of Erwin, NC. He worked as a truck driver for US Express and was a member of Northeast Fellowship Church of God. Mr. Hill loved hunting and shooting guns. He also loved cars, whether it was working on them or watching them race in NASCAR. cars. He was also active in his community by being a proud band parent with Blacksburg High School and he was formerly a volunteer fireman with Antioch Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Hill is survived by a son, Joseph Hill, Jr. of the home; two daughters, Breanna Hill of the home and Chelsea Hill Hughes and husband, Johnathan, of Blacksburg; three brothers, James Joseph "JJ" Hill of Raleigh, NC, James Nathan Hill, and Jeremy Dale Hill, both of Erwin, NC; two sisters, Kristin Hill of Raleigh, NC and Camile Hill of Longs, SC; a grandson, Damian Hughes; and his step-father, Ronald Hayes, of Erwin, NC.

Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wylie and Susie McLamb and Talt and Irene Hill.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 31st, 2013, from 1:00 pm -2:00 pm at Gordon Mortuary. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 pm in the Gordon Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Jay Clever officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Paran Baptist Church Cemetery. Johnathan Hughes, Dewayne Blackwell, Chris Melton, Brad Howington, Hal Howington, Michael Vassey, James Hill, Mike Howington, and Mitchel Howington will serve as pallbearers.

The family will be at the residence.
