Cary, North Carolina -- Dr. Lawrence Milton Glisson, 86, of 303 Troon Village Lane, passed away Monday, June 7th, 2021, at his home.
Born in Parkton, NC, he was the husband of Shirley Gordon Glisson and the son of the late Lawrence Glisson and Annie Ree Chason Glisson. Dr. Glisson was a beloved college professor at several universities over his 45-year teaching career, including Averett University in Danville, Va. and North Carolina AT&T State University in Greensboro, NC. It is estimated that he touched over 10,000 students' lives during that time. He was a proud member of the Armed Forces, serving in the Army on the island of Okinawa between 1954 an 1957. Dr. Glisson was also a long-standing member of the Masonic Lodge in Danville. He was a devoted husband, father, mentor, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Glisson is survived by his wife, Shirley Gordon Glisson; one daughter, Margaret Elizabeth Glisson (Meg) Sollod (Barry New); one son, Dr. William Bradley Glisson (Janet Glisson); one grandson, Phillip Ryan Sollod.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 11, 2021, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Gordon Mortuary, 400 West Cherokee Street, Blacksburg, SC. Graveside services will be Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 4:00 pm at Clingman Memorial Gardens, 1219 East Cherokee Street, Blacksburg, SC with Dr. Scott Peterson officiating. Bradley Glisson, Barry New, Ryan Sollod, and Eric Vassy will serve as pallbearers.
