Obituary for Phyllis Elaine Rape (Hampton)

Shelby -- Phyllis Hampton (Happy) Rape, 73, of 5423 Canterbury Road, Shelby, passed away Wednesday, September 11th, 2013 at Kings Mountain Hospice Home.

Born in Cherokee Falls, Mrs. Rape was the wife of James Rape of the home and the daughter of the late Rev. Marneese P. and Maebelle Martin Hampton. She worked asa teachers Aide at #3 Elementary School and was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Blacksburg. She volunteered with Acteens and taught Sunday School both at Eastside Baptist Church and Second Baptist Church in Shelby. She graduated from Cecil's Business College and had an Associate Degree in Education from Cleveland Community College. She was a member of Gamma Beta Phi and Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. For many years she was credit manager at Graham Cash Company in Gaffney.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Rape is survived by one son, Tim Rape and wife Cyndi of Blacksburg; two daughters, Lisa Bloom and husband Andre' of Blacksburg and Susanne Duncan and husband Mark of Gaffney; one brother, Virgil Hampton and wife Lindy of Blacksburg; one sister, Sheila Hampton Smoke of Gaffney; nine grandchildren, Haley Rape, Samantha Rape, and Zach Rape of Blacksburg; Justin Bloom of Cowpens; Heidi Bloom and Andrew Bloom of Blacksburg; Tyler Duncan, Courtney Blakley, and Marissa Duncan of Gaffney; and two great-grandchildren, Kaden Huskey and Kasen Bloom of Cowpens .

The family will receive friends Friday, September 13th, 2013 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at Eastside Baptist Church in Blacksburg, SC. Funeral services will be held Saturday,September 14th, at 11:00am at Eastside Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Sellers, Rev. Bobby Earls, Rev. Kenny Ashley, and Rev. Virgil Hampton officiating. Entombment will follow at Clingman Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Justin Bloom, Andrew Bloom, Zach Rape, Stan Scruggs, Michael Wessinger, David Hampton, and Alex Hampton. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Bell, J. W. Biddix, J. C. Childers, Donnie Hampton, Ricky Wessinger, Ronnie Wessinger, and Terry Ziegler.

The family will be at the residence of Lisa Bloom, 201 North Cherokee Ford Road Extension, Blacksburg, SC.
