Obituary for Roy Thompson Whelchel Sr.
Greenville -- Roy Thompson Whelchel, 84, formerly of Brick House Road in Gaffney, passed away on Friday, December 18th, 2020, at Southern Oaks Assisted Living.
Born in Gaffney, he was the son of the late Thompson Whitley "TW" Whelchel and Mamie Elizabeth Parker Whelchel. Mr. Whelchel retired from Koeler and was attending Little Memorial Baptist Church before he moved to Greenville.
Surviving Mr. Whelchel are a son, Roy Whelchel Jr. and wife, Gina, a daughter, Tracy Whelchel Stoaks and husband, David, and a granddaughter, Miranda McIntosh and husband, Nathan.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Whelchel was preceded in death by a brother, Basil Whelchel Sr., and five sisters, Louise Moore, Inez Whelchel, Irene Whelchel, Artie Mae Byars, and Josephine Medley,
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, December 22nd, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the Draytonville Baptist Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Draytonville Baptist Church, 179 Draytonville Church Road, Gaffney, SC 29340.
