Blacksburg -- Mr. Thomas Walter "Tarp" Harris Jr., 79, of 410-1/2 South Chester Street, passed away on May 19, 2019, at his residence.
Born in Cherokee Falls, he was the husband of Barbara Peterson Harris and the son of the late Thomas Harris, Sr. and Mary Wood Harris Black. Thomas previously worked for Duke Power and was a member of Mt. Whitaker Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, surviving Mr. Harris are one daughter, Cynthia Harris Ridings of the home; one son, Walter Lane Harris (Barbara) of Blacksburg; one brother, JD "Bud" Harris (Joyce) of Gaffney; one sister, Betty Ruth Simpson of Sacramento, CA; three grandchildren, Calvin Ridings of Blacksburg, Courtney Elaine Black of Cherryville, NC, and Brianna Chandler of Chesnee; and two great-grandchildren, Gideon Black and Leighton Black of Cherryville.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at Mountain View Cemetery with Rev. Michael Owen officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at Mt. Whitaker Fellowship Hall from 3:00-4:00 pm.
