Obituary for Iva Jean Brooks Jones

Blacksburg -- Iva Jean Brooks Jones, 82, passed away Monday, December 23, 2013, at her home.

Iva Jean was born in Cleveland County, NC on November 16, 1931 to Virgil K. and Evelyth P. Brooks. The family moved to Blacksburg when Iva Jean was in early childhood and she remained here until she passed. She was a product of Blacksburg public schools and, while at Blacksburg High School, she played the clarinet in the marching band.

In 1953, Iva Jean married James Leonard Jones, who, along with his father, owned and automotive shop. The couple attended St. John's United Methodist Church.

After completing a cosmetology program in Shelby, NC, Iva Jean became a hairdresser and owned a shop in Blacksburg. Later, she became employed by the Eaton Corporation until her retirement.

In addition to her parents, Iva Jean was preceded in death by her beloved uncle Charles S. Patrick and aunt, Louise Patrick, of Cleveland County, NC.

She is survived by her husband, James Leonard Jones; William "Bo" and wife, Kay, Jones of Shelby; two nephews, Jerry and wife, Gail, Jones of Florida and Bryce and wife, Mickie, Jones of Cornelius, NC; two great-nephews, Norman and Glen and families of Florida; and a canine companion, Prissy. Iva Jean also leaves behind many wonderful first cousins in North and South Carolinas.

The entire family would like to express an appreciation for the loving, considerate, compassionate, and professional care given given to Iva Jean and her family members by her caregivers. They never failed to perform the smallest request without attention to the hour. The caregivers, who have become extended family, are as follows: Tracy Ledbetter, Sandy Patterson, Amy Manning, Judy Ross, Candace Jackson, Deanna Kirby, Chrystal Sewell, Mary Ward, and Denise White.

The family will receive friends Thursday, December 26, 2013, from 1:00 to 1:30 PM at St. John's United Methodist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1:30 PM with Rev. Don Boshell officiating. Interment will follow at Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family request that memorials be either flowers, a favorite of Iva Jean, or contributions to Gentiva Hospice of Spartanburg, 905 East Main Street Suite 2, Spartanburg, SC 29302-2182

The family will be at their respective homes.
