Obituary for Martha Shillinglaw Harry

Blacksburg -- Martha “Cindy” Shillinglaw Harry, 64, died March 1 after a long battle with cancer. Cindy was born to the late Andral and Georgia Shillinglaw March 20, 1949, in Blacksburg, SC. She graduated from Blacksburg High School in 1967 and attended Winthrop University. She married the late Thomas “Butch” Harry in 1969.

Cindy was the Blacksburg librarian for over twenty years until she became the systems administrator for Cherokee County Public Library in Gaffney, SC. She retired in June, 2013 after forty years of service.

Cindy was an avid reader and golfer. She loved flowers and plants and she could make anything grow.

She was member of the Blacksburg ARP Church.

Cindy is survived by her daughter, Shannon Harry Walsh, her sister, Gail Byars, and her two brothers, David and Ron Shillinglaw.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to the Friends of the Library, 300 East Rutledge Avenue, Gaffney, SC 29340, or to the Blacksburg ARP Church, 108 South Chester Street, Blacksburg, SC 29702.

Memorial services will be Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Blacksburg A. R. P. Church. Visitation with a reception will follow the service.
